There’s a whole new Buzz about the Friends Reunited website, with the addition of a new interactive service doubling the number of people reuniting.
The new free “Leave a Buzz”, based on members’ requests for a ‘visitor’s book’ function, lets the website’s 16.3 million members leave a tailored greeting to let old friends know they’ve stopped by their profile page and make a comment about what they’ve read. Each “Buzz” comprises a fun picture and a short message.
Over 120,000 Buzzes are being left every single week, with the majority of members choosing to ask “Remember me?”.
A pint of beer is currently one of the most popular pictures to send, perhaps proof that New Zealand’s national past-time really is drinking.
The beer is entirely virtual and as a result is literally undrinkable. It has no head-dizzying properties (beyond those associated with staring at a computer monitor for far too long). You can consume limitless pints without once forgetting where you live, or changing your view on how attractive certain members of the opposite sex might be.
Yet despite all these, er, drawbacks, beer comes out as the most popular Buzz.
Vicki Dawson, Head of Friends Reunited New Zealand, said: “Leaving a “Buzz” is a quick, free and fun way to tell your friends you’ve stopped by to read their news. They’ve been a hit because they’re perfect if you want to break the ice with old friends or send a virtual gift to your current mates.”
The new feature is also proving to be a hit with advertisers. Dawson added “At the moment you can Buzz things like flowers, cakes, beer and balloons, but we’ve been asked to add some branded gifts, which should be even more enthusiastically received in today’s brand conscious world.”
The addition of Buzzes is just one of a range of forthcoming enhancements to offer Friends Reunited members more, richer, content generation and sharing options.
